The unofficial start of the summer is here! The Colony is home to 23 miles of shoreline and dozens of outdoor adventures, making it the ideal place to unwind or untether with a summer state of mind. Check out our comprehensive list of how to spend your long weekend.
Loosen Up Lakeside

Nothing says summer like warm days spent on a sandy beach. Cool off along the shoreline at Stewart Creek Park. The park features a recently renovated swim beach with kayak and paddleboard rentals through Paddle EZ, two playground areas, pavilions, picnic tables, BBQ grills, sand volleyball, a three-lane boat ramp and plenty of parking. If you prefer to hike or bike, check out the scenic Shoreline Trail, located adjacent to the park’s entrance.

Reel in the Catch of the Day

Lewisville Lake is home to an array of fish including catfish, bass and white crappies. Cast a line from the expansive fishing dock at Stewart Creek Park or charter a boat from Sam’s Dock inside Hidden Cove Park to reach deeper waters. Be sure to check out the Texas Parks and Wildlife website to determine daily bag and length limits during your trip. If you can’t bring your own fishing pole, The Colony Public Library offers free fishing rods and tackle rental to library cardholders (registration is free).
Get on the Water

Hidden Cove Park and Marina is the perfect spot to set up camp and enjoy the long weekend. The park is full of amenities including watercraft rentals. Rent a variety of party boats, compact powerboat and wave runners from Sam’s Dock, or paddleboards and kayaks from DFW Surf. During the holiday weekend, check out DFW Surf’s guided tours and paddleboard classes, including the popular Sunset Paddle and a Pint, craft beer social. While inside Hidden Cove, make sure to check out Rockin’ S Bar & Grill for lunch or dinner on the floating patio.
Sleep Under the Stars

Both Stewart Creek Park and Hidden Cove Park and Marina offer tent and RV camping opportunities. If you prefer something a bit less rugged, enjoy nature from the comfort of a cabin or bunkhouse at Hidden Cove. Cabins accommodate up to six people and offer a quaint kitchenette and living space. If you are bringing along a larger group of friends and family, the rustic bunkhouses are the perfect escape. These massive units come fully furnished with a kitchen and living room area, providing a space for up to 16 or 24 people.
Tee Off Lakeside

Swing through 18 holes of gorgeous lakeside golf at one of the outstanding courses at the Golf Clubs at the Tribute. Play where the pros play at the Old American Golf Club or transport yourself to Scotland as you tee off at The Tribute Golf Links. For a quick nine holes, visit Stewart Peninsular Golf Course where play is challenging but views are spectacular. Mix technology and targets when you hang out at Topgolf where even the most inexperienced golfer can play. For a late-night option, Puttery serves up a modern spin on mini golf for the 21 and up crowd.
Indulge in Local Libations

Enjoy the laid back vibe at a playground for adults. Truck Yard offers live music, rotating food trucks, yard games on the lawn and a wide variety of cold brews including truly local varieties. Beard Science specializes in souring processes that you won’t find elsewhere in North Texas. Their wild sours are fermented with naturally occurring yeasts for a distinctly local taste. Windmills offers an elevated brewery experience. This restaurant-meets-jazz lounge ferments its own small-batch brews on-site. Curate a flight from over 14 beers, which pair excellently with the Indian-Texan fusion served up daily.
