New year, new you, and new things are going on in The Colony! Here’s a sneak peek at the upcoming events coming in 2023.
Sweetheart Ball
Daughters, don your dresses, and dads, grab your dancing shoes as The Colony Parks and Recreation Department will host the 18th annual Sweetheart Ball at the Cascades Conference Center on February 18 from 5:00PM – 9:00PM! All dads, granddads, and father figures along with their little princesses (ages 3 – 12) are invited. Enjoy a wonderful time complete with twinkling tiaras, colorful balloons, and light refreshments. Tickets go on sale on January 1 online at playtc.ticketleap.com.
Luck of the Irish Triathlon
If you like triathlons, then March 19 is your lucky day. The Playtri Luck of the Irish Triathlon returns to the LISD Aquatic Center for a day of celebration. Contestants will swim, bike, and run through the City of The Colony to receive a completion medal. If you’re not competing, come out and cheer on family and friends as they make their way through the course. Register now to claim your spot!
Mother & Son Adventure Day
Mothers and sons, pack your outdoor gear because Mother & Son Adventure Day returns March 25. From 12:00PM – 3:00PM, moms and their little men (ages 3 – 12) will take part in an outdoor expedition throughout Lions Club Park. Mothers and sons will test their skills at archery, fishing, geocaching, and many other camping/outdoor activities. Registration begins January 30.
Movies in the Park
Bring your lawn chairs and blankets as the ever popular, Movies in the Park will make its anticipated return to The Colony Five Star Complex! The 2023 season kicks off on March 31 with Minions: The Rise of Gru (gates open at 6:45PM/movie starts at 7:45PM). On April 14, come watch Lightyear (gates open at 7:00PM/movie starts at 8:00PM). Future movie nights throughout 2023 are scheduled for September 8, and September 29.
Be on the lookout for some EGGcelent prizes at the Spring Eggstravaganza! On April 6 from 5:00PM – 8:00PM at The Colony Five Star Complex, children through the age of 10 will hunt for Easter eggs filled with candy and other fun prizes. Themed crafts and giant lawn games will be present, as well as photo opportunities with the Easter Bunny. Be sure to say “hello” to the animals at the petting zoo! Tickets go on sale on February 27.
Bubbles & Butterflies!
Rein in spring at the Bubbles & Butterflies event at Stewart Creek Park. Join in this exceptional event hosted by The Colony Parks & Recreation Department from 10:00AM – 11:30AM on April 15, April 29, and May 13! Bubble wands of all sizes will be provided and craft your own butterfly. Registration is FREE for those with an annual pass to Stewart Creek Park.
Coach Cox’s Kids Chase by the Lake
Have your little runner lace up their running shoes and come on out to the 22nd annual Coach Cox’s Kids Chase presented by The Colony Parks and Recreation Department and The Colony Roadrunners Club. On April 22 from 7:00AM – 10:00AM, kids will partake in a race through the pristine Stewart Creek Park on the shores of Lewisville Lake. Children 9 and under will compete in a half-mile race, while runners ages 10 – 12 will run a one-mile course. The first 100 registered participants will receive a T-shirt, and all participants will take home a ribbon and goodie bag. Registration starts February 6.
Up, Up & Away: Festival of Flight
We have lift off! Bring the whole family out to Prestwick STEM Academy on May 6 from 4:00PM – 8:00PM for Up, Up & Away: Festival of Flight, a FREE celebration of all things flight. The 8th year of the festival will hold multiple activities such as kite flying and demonstrations, music, birding demonstrations, and paper airplane making. There will also be giveaways, rides, food trucks, and more!
The Colony Summer Clubhouse
For those looking for something to do with the little ones over the summer, check out The Colony Summer Clubhouse. The three-month summer showcase held at The Colony Recreation Center includes activities such as animal presentations, magic shows, sing-along storytelling, movies, and more. Friends and family of all ages are welcome. Shows start at 10:00AM, so get there early and grab a front-row spot!
Take on the Heat Triathlon
Put your endurance skills to the test at the Playtri Take on the Heat Triathlon on June 4. Compete against other athletes as you make your way across the City of The Colony by foot, by bike, and through the water at the LISD Aquatic Center. Collect your medal once you cross the finish line and complete the challenging course! To register click here.
Liberty By The Lake
Come celebrate America’s independence at the 26th annual Liberty By The Lake Festival on July 1. The celebration kicks off with the Liberty 5K, 10K & Mile Fun Run at Stewart Creek Park from 6:00AM – 12:00PM. Then, from 10:00AM – 12:00PM, enjoy the Independence Day Parade as it routes from Peters Colony Elementary to The Colony Five Star Complex. Afterward, make your way over to The Colony Five Star Complex at 6:00PM and stay for a night full of exhilarating games, rides, great eats, live music, and more! Finally, end the night with an Independence Day fireworks show set to patriotic music.
Bow-Wow Luau
Man’s best friend likes going to the waterpark too! The ever-popular Bow-Wow Luau is returning to Hawaiian Falls this September. Dive in with your HOT DOG and enjoy doggie swims, contests, games, and prizes! A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Colony Animal Shelter Injured Animal Fund. Concessions will be available for purchase. Limit two dogs per owner.
The Ascendant LPGA Benefiting Volunteers of America
Come watch some of the best female golfers in the world as they compete in The Ascendant LPGA Benefiting Volunteers of America at the Golf Clubs at The Tribute from October 2 – 8. Serving as the only Official LPGA Tour event in Texas, The Ascendant LPGA is the premiere event in North Texas. Bring the family out for a fun week of golf, workshops, a family fun zone, and more. Complimentary tickets are available for active and retired service members and their families. Children 17 and under receive free admission with a ticketed adult.
Family Fright Fest
Ghosts and ghouls will be out in droves this year at the Family Fright Fest at Stewart Creek Park. On October 14 from 4:00PM – 8:00PM, bring the whole family for a howling-good night full of hay rides, games, vendors, contests, trick-or-treating, and more!
The Colony Half Marathon & Green Dragon 5-Miler
Gear up for another great run at 11th annual The Colony Half Marathon & 5-Mile Race! Come take part in a run along the scenic Shoreline Trail surrounding Lewisville Lake where runners will receive a quarter zip shirt as well as a participant medal. Bring all of the runners you know, as this event benefits the Angels Fall Up organization, and is sure to provide great experiences and memories for all that attend.
American Heroes: A Salute to Veterans
Honor, courage, sacrifice. November 10 – 11 marks the return of the annual American Heroes: A Salute to Veterans & First Responders Festival at The Colony Five Star Sports Complex. This two-day Veteran celebration brings the whole community together with carnival rides, games, an incredible concert lineup, food trucks, fireworks, and more!
Holiday Festivities in The Colony
When the weather turns cooler, it’s time to bring back that holiday cheer! Wintertime in The Colony means the return of Holiday in the Park and the Parade of Lights. Watch the bright and colorfully themed floats make their way toward Perryman Park for a celebration of the season complete with festive music, games, rides, and more. Don’t forget about the Christmas Spectacular at The Colony Central Fire Station with an amazing light show set to the jolliest hits of the season!
