Whether you are new to the North Texas running scene or looking to build up your medal count, The Colony offers a variety of races each year. Check out a comprehensive list of must-experience races on the calendar this year.
The Colony Half Marathon & Green Dragon 5 Miler
Part trail run, part road race, The Colony Half Marathon incorporates the best of both surfaces every autumn. Enjoy scenic views of Lewisville Lake’s eastern shoreline from the crushed granite footing of The Colony Shoreline Trail. For a shorter run, consider the Green Dragon 5 Miler. The race utilizes a similar trail route and is adjacent to Stewart Creek Park for ultimate views of the water’s edge. Both events offer hydration stations and commemorative technical race shirts, as well as an after-party featuring food and drinks. 100% of the net proceeds support cancer patients and research for cures through the race’s designated cancer fighting non-profit, Angels Fall Up.
Triathlons & Run-Bike-Run Events
Join Playtri, the Official Triathlon Store for the IRONMAN U.S. Series, as it hosts two triathlons and run-bike-run events in The Colony. These USA Triathlon sanctioned events are organized by a certified race director and feature pre-race clinics to give you some transition, gear and nutrition tips. Come March, the Luck of the Irish Triathlon celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with the addition of a 5K. Test your endurance with the Take on the Heat Triathlon during the summer. Both races kick off at Lewisville Aquatic Center East and include a commemorative shirt, large custom medal and finisher gift.
10K or Less Race Routes
Feel active and explore the city through multiple short-distance road runs. For over three decades, the Liberty 5K, 10K & 1 Mile Fun Run has kicked off The Colony’s Independence Day celebration. Runners and walkers of all abilities are welcome to participate in this family-friendly race then enjoy live music, performances and a fireworks finale at Liberty By The Lake.
Encourage kids to take an interest in running and living a healthy lifestyle with Coach Cox’s Kid Chase. Designed for younger runners, this race features half and full-mile courses on the shores of Lewisville Lake at Stewart Creek Park. All participants receive a participation ribbon and goody bag.
Keep an eye out for Grandscape’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Tribute Trail 5K at Ascendant LPGA Benefitting Volunteers of America as even more runs and charity events are added throughout the year.
